Boats have always caught my attention. The first works of art I remember admiring were marine paintings. Over time, I began to identify painters I liked, such as Turner, Manet, Castagneto, and Sorolla. Naturally, this attraction to boats is present in my photography.
Whether it's the vibrant colors reflected in the soft tones of the water, or the almost raw wood with traces of an old paint job. Whether it's the complexity of the handcrafted joinery of those built in small shipyards, or the large, unique tree trunks carved using a technique passed down through generations in coastal and riverside communities of South America and Africa.
Whether it's those with flat bottoms that sit on the water like platforms, giving an illusion of stability, or the narrow pirogues that challenge the balance of even the most experienced fishermen.
It's hard to say what attracts me so much, but it's always worth shoting them.
Os barcos sempre me chamaram a atenção. As primeiras obras de arte que lembro admirar foram as pinturas marinas. Com o tempo comecei identificar pintores que gostava como Turner, Manet, Castagneto e Sorolla. Naturalmente esta atração por barcos está presente na minha fotografia.
Sejam as cores vibrantes que se refletem nos tons frios da água, ou a madeira quase crua com vestígios de uma pintura antiga. Seja a complexidade da marcenaria artesanal daqueles construídos em pequenos estaleiros, ou os grandes troncos únicos de árvores escavados segundo uma técnica transmitida há séculos por gerações em comunidades costeiras e ribeirinhas da América do Sul e da África.
Sejam aqueles com fundo plano que se assentam na água como plataformas, dando uma ilusão de estabilidade, ou as estreitas pirogas que desafiam o equilíbrio até dos pescadores mais experientes.
É difícil dizer o que me atrai tanto, mas sempre vale a pena fotografá-los.
